Epicsicle!

We've gotten a bit more snow- maybe 8 inches to a foot. Melting off the roofs, it's created some cray icicles! Here's one that got twisted as it was forming (that's Elijah holding it):


And we like to call this one the Epicsicle! It's actually forming a stalagmite below it:


To combat the cold, I made my first sourdough loaf in the breadmaker. It looks like what would have happened if my first loaf had stayed as high as it had ever risen, rather than falling again.


My Swallowtail shawl is coming along nicely, I've done 11 of 14 repeats of this part of the pattern, and then I get to move onto the border. I'm actually really enjoying it now that I've gotten the hang of the pattern.


Luke and Han are napping on my lap (piled on top of each other, as they do), and it's nice to have a lapful of warm, loving kittens. I continue to tell them that they will be getting a new baby brother or sister, as the search for the baby tabby boy/girl (I'm becoming a lot more open to the idea of getting a girlcat) goes on. I'm waiting for a call from Second Chance about the baby tabby girl they have, so that I can properly meet her. Otherwise, there is the Phoenix trip on Saturday. My friend (whose birthday it will be) is excited about helping me find a kitten, as she has cats of her own. I'm excited about getting a third kitten!

I must be hallucinating....

First, the weather: We got some more snow today, but less than an inch, and it didn't really stick. The snow is piled up very high on the sides of the road, though, as the front loader was working all Monday night to widen the roads (the plow only got them to one lane in our area).



The mountains are pleasantly snowcapped, which is a view that I can enjoy from afar:


In more exciting and colorful news, I finished my flying pink elephant mobile (Rav link)! Everyone who's seen it so far loves it, and so do I!




I also made several different-colored flying elephants, which I'll show in a later post.

Snow Update

Saturday afternoon, and it finally stopped snowing. Thursday evening, the snow turned into rain, which was good: it washed away a bit of the snow, and bad: our roof started leaking in a few places, and rain + snow = slush, slush + cold = ice. Here are some pictures from Friday:

The snow doesn't look as deep as it actually is, because there's at least a foot that's hardened up enough to walk on, and then another foot or so of soft snow on top of that:


At least the trees are pretty, if a bit overburdened:

The cats were a bit confused by all the white stuff:
Luke: "Mom? What's this white stuff that kinda smells like water?"


Han: "This stuff is weird!"

Let it snow... no more!

Flagstaff is at the beginning of the third snowstorm this week, and this is the big one. From the first two, we got a combined 8-12 inches. So far, this storm has dropped at least a foot, and it's supposed to keep snowing nonstop through early Sunday morning. Here are some illustrations of how much snow we've gotten so far. The window birdfeeder. The cats love watching the birds at the window, but I don't think any birds will be coming until I can get out there and clean it off.


Speaking of cats, they continue to be absolutely adorable.

And in yarncraft news, here's a couple pictures of my slippers, which I finally finished so that I can wear them! They're felted wool, beautifully warm. The yarn is Cascade 220, and I used the pattern Big Snugs (Ravelry link).
